About Us

What "Prism" Means To Us

I have always loved the idea that plain, white light can shine through a prism and create something so colorful and joyful. Baking feels similar to me. I get to turn simple ingredients into something beautiful and delicious and also joyful.

Prism Baking focuses on fresh, quality ingredients. We bake using only King Arthur flour (Never Bleached. Never Bromated) from wheat that is grown, milled, and packaged in the United States. We never add preservatives to our breads. Because of this, our bread is best when eaten fresh.

Meet Your Neighborhood Baker

Hello! My name is Kristin Newby, and I am the baker at Prism Baking. My desire to make delicious baked things comes from my desire to eat delicious baked things. Genetically gifted (cursed?) with a sweet tooth, my early baking years were focused on desserts.

In 2007, my husband's job took us to France for 2 years. It was here that I developed a deep appreciation for breads. With a bakery in every village, we grew accustomed to having fresh bread daily and fresh pastries whenever we wanted. After returning to the US, I missed the breads of France, so I dedicated myself to learning how to reproduce those breads that we had taken for granted overseas.

I'm incredibly grateful to my family for their support in this adventure. They have tasted hundreds of different recipes, carried countless bags of flour, and encouraged me for many, many years. I'm excited for the opportunity to share my small-batch, artisan breads with my fellow bread-lovers.

For the past 15 years, bread baking has been my passion. I love the feel of kneading separate ingredients into a homogenous dough. I love the smell of scalded milk mixed with yeast. I love seeing loaves spring to life as they proof. I love hearing the crackle of hearth loaves as soon as they come out of the oven. And the taste...the taste of fresh bread is what keeps me passionate about the craft.
